Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) are the leading causes of blindness in adults today, despite the existence of treatments that have been shown to be more than 90% effective in preserving sight. Unfortunately, our research shows that a typical Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) patient loses over 4 lines of vision on a standard eye chart before they even begin treatment. Why is this?
Perhaps most importantly, many people don’t do home-testing for signs of vision loss. Symptoms of AMD can be difficult to perceive at first- our brains are great at disguising gaps in our vision by filling the blank space with colors that match the surrounding area. At-home vision monitoring can be crucial to detecting problems early. Even when mild blurriness, wavy lines, or blank spots are noticed, many people may choose to wait until their regular check-up with their eye doctor, and won’t make a special appointment. The treatments for AMD and DR may be very effective at preventing further vision loss, but they can’t restore vision that’s already been lost. That’s why early detection and making an appointment to see your eye doctor at the first sign of trouble are so important.
Even if a patient has been given home vision-monitoring tests, many don’t stick with them. The home-tests are rather boring and it can become an unpleasant task to use them regularly.
With all these different factors, it’s a little clearer why AMD and Diabetic Retinopathy are still leading causes of blindness. That’s why our founder, Mark Roser, decided to do something about it!

Our hope is to share our knowledge with you, and help you recognize problems with your vision that need to be checked right away.
